![]() To check the key you just usually point to the highest point on the spectrum which is the fundamental frequency. I have it on every track anyway to assist in mixing, and like Live's EQ8 it tells you the pitch of any frequency you hover the cursor over. Personally if I need to double check a pitch i'm not totally sure about, I use MeldaAudio MMultianalyzer. Thanks in advance iZotope's Nectar 2's pitch function has key detect, but it's a vocal processing suite so not ideal to use just for checking key. Should everything be in the same key in your track? Sorry if this sounds stupid I just never understood what people mean when they say that and could use some clarification. This sounds like it would be very hard to accomplish, especially if you're using a sample or something that you really like the sound of but it's in a different key than your kick. Does that mean that every sound (kick, snare, lead, bass, pads, etc) should all be in the same key? I know in Live 9 the new EQ8 shows the key ranges but it doesn't really show the key of the whole sound, just what specific frequencies are hitting in which key.Īnother thing I'm not sure about is, people always say that your kick and bassline or whatever else should all be in the same key. So far I'm not sure if something like this even exists but it would make life so much easier as I don't really know anything about music theory. Whether it's a kick, snare, bassline or anything else. I'm looking for a plugin that I can drop on any channel in my project and it will tell me what key it is in. Especially if I'll probably end up changing that sound anyway. I know there's stuff like Mixed in Key but it's really cumbersome to have to export a kick drum or lead synth while working on a track just to see what key it is. Is there a plugin that can detect the key of say for example a kick drum or a bassline, synth lead, etc? This allows you to always know which songs go well together and how you can improve your mixing skills. This might sound like a stupid question but I can't find any info on this anywhere. Useful key identification toolĪll aspects considered, KeyFinder is a simple yet very efficient piece of software which aims to provide you with the ability to determine the correct music key for one or more songs simultaneously, in just a few moves. However, it is advisable that you only modify them if you know exactly what you are doing, otherwise you run the risk of affecting its accuracy. Optionally, KeyFinder allows you to adjust its functioning parameters. The utility supports several audio format, for instance MP3, M4A, MP4, WMA, FLAC, AIF, AIFF and WAV, while also providing support for 'Custom Key Codes'. KeyFinder also features a 'Detailed Analysis' function that allows you to get a visual representation of your song's key in 'Chromagram Colors', which you can select from the dedicated menu, namely 'Izo', 'Mono', 'Pred', 'VBoy' and 'Hack'. The estimation will be displayed in the 'Detected Key' column, along with other ID tag information from your song. It supports drag and drop operations, so all you need to do is drop the audio files that you want to analyze onto the main window of KeyFinder, then press the 'Run Batch Analysis' button. The application features a basic and far from impressive interface, but this makes it quite approachable for everyone, regardless of their level of experience in working with similar software. Moreover, this translates into no additional registry entries on the system you are using KeyFinder on, meaning you can simply remove it by deleting the containing folder. Thanks to its portability feature, KeyFinder can be placed on any USB or similar memory drive, allowing you to run on any computer you want, at home or at work, without having to sit through a lengthy installation operation. The program is quite simple to work with, requiring only that you unzip the archive and run the EXE file that it contains, with no installation process being necessary. KeyFinder is a lightweight and intuitive application aimed at Disc Jockeys, as it can help you identify an audio file's music key, which can be used in various harmonic and tonal mixing operations. Being a DJ is not all that its cracked up to be, since it is not all about pressing one magical button and music comes out.
